The Fools Pilgrimage – Expanding Your Comfort Zone

The Fools Pilgrimage – Expanding Your Comfort Zone

Comfort is a double edged sword – on the one hand it can be a wonderful thing. It’s warm and cosy and it feels good to be in a place where you can relax.

But comfort can lead to complacency and we often crave feeling comfortable so much that we don’t wanna leave our comfort zone.

However, discomfort is an essential part of our growth. It’s in the expansion of our capabilities that we make ourselves more capable and able to deal with the pressures and stresses that come along.

If we don’t find stressors to push us – stress will come looking for us!

Last weekend I stepped out of my current comfort zone to lead a paddle boarding lesson.

I’ve been paddle boarding a long time, and I’ve been leading people in different types of classes for a long time, and very many years ago I used to teach windsurfing BUT taking this first paddle boarding lesson was definitely a step outside of my comfort zone.

The lead up to the lesson had me feeling quite anxious and nervous because I wanted to do a good job and give everyone a valuable experience – and guess what? It went great! Everyone got to stand up on their paddle boards and go on a little trek.

Stepping outside of my comfort zone has made me I feel very empowered and my confidence has been boosted and I’ve expanded my efficacy.

Efficacy is our self perception of our capabilities and there is a correlation between self-efficacy, self confidence and positive mental health!

As a young child, worry was a real companion of mine and the fear of stepping out of my comfort zone would stop me in my tracks – my goals, aims and objectives would come crashing down when the thought of actually leaving the comfort of my bedroom or my family home or out of my normal routine would leave me standing cold and floundering on the spot.

Making a conscious decision to ‘get over’ that worry was a challenge so I was brave and took steps to expand my comfort zone by being uncomfortable 🥴

So Be Brave and Step Out

Dare to do it and believe in yourself to GET IT DONE

Namaste 🙏 have a great day
