The Fools Pilgrimage – Perspective and Perception

The Fools Pilgrimage – Perspective and Perception

How do you view the world? What is your perception of your life? Does watching the news impact on your perception of how things are?

I was staying away on the weekend at a lovely little B&B called Dippers in West Dorset run by a fantastic couple – Don and Liz.

This really was a sweet spot in Dorset and nestled right in the countryside about 5 miles outside of Bridport.

Don and I were talking about Plymouth – my home town – where he’d never visited but had been watching a tv show about someone walking the coastal path and they had gone thru Plymouth highlighting the hoe, the citadel and Plymouth sound. “It looked lovely” he proclaimed.

And yep! He’s right – and as I looked out of the window from the Dippers breakfast room I’d agree that the view from that window was also lovely.

From my perspective, my perception of that view was a positive glowing one!

We all have a perception and a perspective. How we perceive the world and our life depends on our perspective.

Walking up to Plymouth Hoe for the first time during freshers week in 1997. The perspective of the lovely Plymouth Sound is etched in my mind – as I got used to the beauty of it I became complacent, when I was training for the Gladiators and would  run along the hoe, head down and focused It became just a place to run! Now peddling on my bike or paddling on my paddle board, I appreciate the grandeur of it agin – my perspective had changed and with it my perception.

There have been a great many times in my life when I’ve sat there with my head in my hands dwelling on the loss – the failure – the floundering dreams that have broken and the shattered expectations of now life should be BUT after a moment I dare to look about and see the wonder and the beauty in the mundane and ordinary.

There are always great things around, and even in those dark times if we change our perspective we change our perception.

I love this:

Hate kills Love

Laziness kills Ambition

Anger kills Wisdom

Fear kills Dreams

Ego kills Growth

Jealousy kills Harmony

Doubt kills Confidence

Conflict kills Compassion

Now read that from right to left – changing our point of view and how we see the sentence changes the whole meaning.

Change your perspective to change your perception and shift that mindset.

Every cloud has a silver lining! And every silver lining has a cloud!

What your focus is on, what your perspective is, will affect your perception!

So today, what will your perspective be? And how will your perceive the world

Namaste – Have a good day 🙏
